There are about 300 different Mancala games, some versions are simple like Kalah or Oware but others like Omweso or Bao can be very complicated as they are played on two boards and sometimes played in a reverse direction. It also remains widely played today. Another is when a seed lands in an empty hole, all the seeds in the hole directly opposite are captured. The first game listed here is Oware which is played on a two-rank Mancala board and which is common to West Africa and the Caribbean. The fourth game is a version of Bao Kiswahili; another very popular game played on a four-rank Mancala board, which is played in Zanzibar, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and eastern Zaire. To decide who goes first, one player holds a seed in a fist. It runs on Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer 9 or higher. When the player reaches the end of a row, sowing continues in an anti-clockwise direction in the other row. During a turn, a player grabs all of the stones in a hole on their side and drops them, one by one, in succeeding holes in a counter-clockwise direction. If the last seed is sown in the opponents row and the hollow concerned finishes with 2 or 3 seeds, those seeds are captured. The game has no African origins despite many claims to the contrary, even by its inventor, because there is no such game in the whole of Africa. If the last kete falls into an occupied shimo, the player takes all the kete in this occupied shimo including the kete just deposited in it and begins afresh with the new kete continuing in the same direction and starting with the following shimo.
