The D13 14 onwards had a gusset plate welded each side 2 of the frame behind the headstock. So we hope the rest of the engine assembly goes better? I have a primary chain adjuster and 12 tooth sprocket to fit. She had three gears, a maximum speed of around 50 mph, good brakes for the time and fuel economy of over 100 miles to a gallon of fuel, interesting when compared to the lower effeciency of similar modern bikes. ~~~~~~ I have to widen the rear Bantam hub and build the Ex Suzuki hub into a rim for the front wheel. The points were moved from the nearside to a separate housing in the primary drive cover on the offside, apart from this the bike's external appearance was very similar to the late D7 models. Frames come powder coated black. I have the pick of three complete engines for my build so just hope I get it right.

We know the Bantam frame's that Paul builds for Alan are great, but any frame that the late Rob Homer made can not be that bad, the bloke never did a bad job in his life. The engine size shown is nominal, British motorcycles were made 1 or 3 cc smaller than their tax bracket maximum to allow for re-bores and wear. This was irrespective of how much metal was removed or even if there was a job in the chuck. Asides from the boring-out little changed, stronger front forks were fitted to the D3 as was a beefier front brake. From a classic owners point of view in latter days however, that is a godsend. So without Allister Cave to explain what each and every odd marking signifies we are just guessing. The yokes slightly steepen the fork angle.

They also converted fasteners from Metric to Inches and adapted Lucas electrics. The D5 model was only produced for the 1958 season. If you have a Bantam for which you can prove entitlement to the original Registration Number, which can be done using the original log book or some other documentation linking the Frame Number to the Registration Number, then you may be able to re-claim the original number assigned to the bike. You know it makes sense, If the frame is good enough for Wrighty and Colin Dommett I can't see that there can be a lot wrong with the one you have. Many changes were made to these models, the most noticeable fitting the silencer in an upswept position.

The oil in frame B-series are stamped on the propstand bracket. Well after spending hours and hours over the last week or two trying to get things to fit i am beginning to wonder if the saving was really worth it. Just read the above and get on with the frame you have. The assembly was then lowered onto the barrel studs until they sat onto the spacers. My D14 was an early one manufactured 67 , my D10 sports frame is of 66 manufacture - both made for the following years sales. This is what we are aiming for, and we know it works because of the mud.

We can also supply matching colour front rims or have the rim anodized to your preferred colour. Gavin---now that is a thought! Only the Bushman retained the direct lighting, with all other models utilising a coil driven battery lighting system. The 6 volt lighting was supplied by a 27 Watt Wico-Pacy Geni-Mag generator, direct electrics meant no battery, The engine has to be running for the main lights to work. In addition, the front suspension was made more substantial in volume and the cylinder was not simply bored out but was enlarged with distinctive larger thermal cooling fins. Bob stands by the boring machine and shoves a couple of gauges into the hole. The first Bantams were in dealerships in 1948, about two years after the Armistice. Then the barrel was sat onto my desk and I gently coaxed the piston rings into the barrel using the clamp and a fine screwdriver.

European sailors restocking on live fowl for sea journeys found the small native breeds of chicken in Southeast Asia to be useful, and any such small poultry came to be known as a bantam. I must say for a trials frame I do think using the tubing is a bit over the top. Is T45 used throughout the frame or just for the main loop, would the T45 version have that tubing used for the steering head tube as well as the swing arm pivot, surely ordinary grade steel would be used for all the brackets on both so no gain there so what might the weight saving be? I still own the D7A my grandfather bought me new in 1960. The Bantam was one of the first bikes to be used in this way, trials before that had been more professional events run by substantially larger bikes. Ignition was of two types: a Lucas battery-powered coil in earlier machines, or a by Wipac. By November 1948, the headlight still had the hinge fitted, but the locking clip was replaced with the common standard screw underneath the headlight, still found on all models.
